Road Trippin’ through the USA

The past few months have been nothing short of spectacular for me but I’m saving all my New York adventures for a blog post coming soon. Instead, I thought I’d share one of the great adventures I recently had that happened outside New York. I love hitting the road and exploring different places around big cities. Sometimes these adventures can happen at a moments notice or with new friends, and can land you in the places you least expect yourself. So when a friend asked if I wanted to head to her family’s home in Virginia for a weekend, I instantly said yes. I admit I had to pull up Google Maps and see exactly where Virginia was. Geography has never been my forte. Thursday night I finished class, headed to the bus station, hopped on a bus and woke up in Virginia. A short drive through the city and an even longer one through the vast land outside the city showed there wasn’t much difference than what I would usually see when driving outside of my hometown Toronto. Once we arrived in Richmond we had a chance to settle down but quickly got back on our feet to head out to a local mall to partake in some shopping and holiday festivities. Now I realize it’s usually too cold for us to have outdoor malls in Canada but I love getting the chance to grab a coffee and walk outside between stores browsing the surrounding area as much as I am the clothes. Flowers, fire pits, Christmas decorations and a huge Christmas tree were all making me feel in the spirit. And if that didn’t do it, the thousands of people who showed up to see the Christmas celebrations that included Santa performing and the Christmas tree being lit up was sure to bring a smile to my face. On Thursday we woke up in DC and starting exploring Washington early. Walking all around the monuments, exploring art galleries, checking out the outdoor sculptures, and finally visiting the White House made for an action packed day. We spent the night enjoying Georgetown where I got the chance to witness the most beautiful sunset I’ve ever seen and try the most delicious cupcake I’ve ever had (seriously google Georgetown Cupcakes). Sunday was road trippin’ day where we drove from Fairfax to Delaware to Maryland to New Jersey where we finally dropped the car and headed back to our beloved New York City.

I’m starting to realize the world is a lot smaller than I thought and I can’t help but feel excited to explore it.

And now, for some pictures! You can check out my Washington album on Flickr but here are some additional ones I wanted to show.

  1. It’s great to see someone exploring the world and having new experiences – you tell it so well. I realized what makes us Canadian is partly due to the snow and Christmas celebrations the way we traditionally do it. Having Warm weather would be strange – I would do it, but would also miss the regular things like trees, snow and lights we have. Looking forward to the next post 🙂
